In the Purim tradition of mishloach manot (providing gifts of food and drink to family, friends, and others on this holiday) the Tzedakah Committee is partnering with New Trier Township to sponsor a spring food drive for the benefit of their food pantry. The NTT food pantry serves over 100 households per month, representing about 250 persons. The groceries and personal care items available at the pantry are making a tremendous difference in the lives of NTT residents who face job loss, devastating illness, divorce, underemployment, or other unforeseen life circumstances.
The drive is March 18 – 24. Donors may deposit food and non-food items in the donation box at Beth Emet (located by the elevator on the 1st floor).
The pantry’s most needed items: cookies; crackers; granola bars; brown and white rice; canned tuna, salmon, and chicken; cooking oil; condiments; pasta sauce; salad dressings; and, non-food items including zip-loc style baggies, paper goods, aluminum foil, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene items such as toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, and conditioner. NTT pantry volunteers will screen for expired foods. Cash donations are also accepted, payable to New Trier Township Angel Fund, Inc. and mailed to the New Trier Township Office, 739 Elm Street, Winnetka, 60093 with “For Food Pantry” on the check memo line.
Please contact Barry Isaacson, Tzedakah Committee chair, by email or by phone: 847-624-6434 with any questions you may have (including donating items after March 24) or if you would like to volunteer for this event.
