October 8, 2025
Each year, Interfaith Action of Evanston honors Vision Keepers from our community at an Annual Fundraising Dinner, offering faith communities an opportunity to come together and celebrate common bonds of faith and service. We’re thrilled to announce that Terri Michaels has been selected as Beth Emet’s 2025 Vision Keeper!
Terri serves as chair of Beth Emet’s Inclusion Committee. She is dedicated to continually increasing Beth Emet’s capacity to be more inclusive of people with visible and invisible disabilities to create a community of belonging for all. With this mission in mind, she leads the committee in examining all aspects of Beth Emet, from the physical space to communications, from congregational programs to the beit sefer (religious school). Dedicated to educating and raising awareness through programming, Terri is an invaluable resource to all Beth Emet committees and staff.
Over the years, she has led efforts including organizing the annual d’var Torah (words of Torah) for Jewish Disabilities Acceptance, Awareness and Inclusion Month; refining and implementing the High Holy Days ushering protocol; and sponsoring a book club, as well as programs featuring Israeli Para Sport Center athlete Caroline Taub; writer and painter Riva Lehrer; actress, author, and disability rights advocate Susan Nussbaum; and the inclusive theater group, Tellin Tales Theater.
Terri will be honored at Interfaith Evanston’s Annual Fundraising Dinner on Sunday, October 26 at the Hilton Orrington Hotel in Evanston. Proceeds support Interfaith Action’s programs: winter overnight shelter and warming center, Hospitality Center for the Homeless, and local soup kitchens.
