Judaism is blessed with Brachot (Blessings) for just about everything, which makes us aware of our need to be grateful for the gifts we have been given. In 2017, Beth Emet’s Marilyn Price, storyteller/puppeteer, author, and educator, partnered with Rabbi David Teutsch to create FROM BLESSINGS TO GRATITUDE AND BACK — a wise and useful guide to finding our way through these blessings and connecting them to ourselves. The blessings, some 1500 years old, are mostly familiar to us, though some may be new and startling to discover.

Beth Emet is fortunate to host Rabbi Teutsch, who, with Marilyn, created CONGREGATIONAL PROGRAMMING. Meeting in the sanctuary at 9:45 AM, the Beit Sefer students will join their parents and other adult learning members of Beth Emet to begin their morning of blessings.

Adults and teens will join Rabbi Teutsch in the Weiner Room, and Beit Sefer will follow Marilyn for a morning of visual blessings—drawing, creating characters, and new blessings for our world. After our time, we invite all the participants to view our art gallery, admire our work, and bless each other as we enter 2025!

David Teutsch, a graduate of Harvard and Hebrew Union College (NYC) with a business degree from Pennsylvania University, has had an impressive career as a pulpit rabbi, as the director of the Reconstructionist Movement, and then as President of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. His current activities include JStreet, where he co-chaired the Rabbinic Council with Rabbi London and is an advisor to Rabbis and educators throughout the country. His published work includes editing the Kol Haneshmah series for the Reconstructionist movement, a 3 volume series called A GUIDE TO JEWISH LIVING articles and papers, and the book we will present at this program. He lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Marilyn Price is an award-winning puppeteer and nationally recognized artist who has published many books, taught extensively in adult education settings, libraries, and schools, and created and directed the first Jewish family school in Wilmette. Her Alef Bet Primer, which uses crafted puppets to teach, is also used nationwide. She is a partner in TriBraining, Inc., a not-for-profit educational foundation whose mission is to help teachers reach all learners creatively and with joy. The relationship between the authors began over 40 years ago when Marilyn served on the Board of Directors for RRC. Each of them considers their love of Judaism a profound gift and relishes sharing it with their ‘audience’ from the youngest to the oldest!
