Why You Shouldn’t Miss the Beth Emet Community Retreat!

Whether you’ve participated in a community retreat in years past or you’re intrigued to make deeper connections and experience some of the best that Beth Emet has to offer, this retreat is for you. Hear from our staff about what makes this awesome! Hear from our two Klei Kodesh (Senior Staff members) on why you should come to our community retreat December 6-8 at OSRUI!

When I first started working at Beth Emet, it was important to me to also make Beth Emet my family’s home. We all participated in the community retreat that year, and it was such a wonderful way in which to formally step in. Not only was it a weekend full of joy, learning, and sharing, but it was such a great way to make new friends and deepen relationships, many of whom remain good friends 23 years later. Whenever I talk to newish members or members who feel a bit distanced from the congregation, I always recommend that they consider participating in a retreat. I’ve never heard from anyone who attended that then walked away feeling “eeh” about the experience. Which is why you should consider registering! The retreat community is as diverse as our congregation – young, older, families, single members, kids, couples without kids, newer members and those who have been at Beth Emet since Rabbi Polish was our rabbi. There’s a place for you!

Beth Emet retreats are high on my list of favorites because time spent at OSRUI feels distinctly special compared to doing the very same things at home. (I’ve been going on retreats to OSRUI since 1968, with a few years off after college, so it holds a special place in my heart.) Whether it’s Shabbat services, meals in the dining hall, or putting kids to bed, it’s just more fun when we’re at camp. And because it’s a whole weekend, there’s plenty of time to shmooze, go for walks (on the frozen lake, if we’re lucky), sit together in front of the blazing fire, gaze at the stars, and snack on the yummies we’ll bring. We’re together: we’ve all set aside this time, and no one needs to run off for an appointment or drive a child to a birthday party. The setting, too, is also conducive to deeper thinking and feeling…..it’s magical what can happen.

I hope to see you there so that we can enjoy this camp experience together.
