Monday, October 6 (Erev Sukkot)
5:00-7:00 p.m. Potluck dinner* and presentation
7:00-7:45 p.m. Erev Sukkot service
Come together to celebrate the abundance of the harvest season and the sweetness that emerges when people work together. We’ll start by decorating the sukkah and sharing in a festive potluck dinner featuring the seven species (shivat haminim) of the Land of Israel—wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates.
Please sign up here to bring a nut-free, vegetarian main or side dish that will feed 7-10 people and incorporates one of the seven species. Dessert will be provided.
Over art, dinner, and conversation, we’ll welcome representatives from Building Together (www.buildingtogether.org), a remarkable organization bringing Jews and Palestinians together in Israel and the West Bank to strengthen both human bonds and economic opportunity through the ancient art of date honey production.
Building Together may not cause the violence and bloodshed in Gaza to end, but it does point to a positive direction forward for the nearly equal numbers of Jews and Palestinians who live in the land and must find a way to live together in dignity, freedom, and peace.
As Sukkot—a time of gathering, expressing gratitude, and welcoming the stranger—begins, we’ll learn how this innovative project is creating pathways to understanding while reviving traditional food practices that honor the land’s rich heritage. Discover how date honey production is not only preserving cultural traditions but also building bridges between communities and fostering economic empowerment.
This event is open only to Beth Emet members and our guests, and pre-registration is required:
