Hello Beth Emet Community,
My name is Emmie Weprin, and I am thrilled to be starting as your Director of Youth Engagement. I am originally from Denver, Colorado. Growing up, being involved in the Denver Jewish community was a huge part of my identity. I attended Jewish summer camp and participated in a wide range of Jewish teen activities. Since leaving for college, my Jewish touchstones have been my family and my “found connection” with the Jewish Service Corps, Avodah. I attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, where I studied History and Education.
This past year, through Avodah, I was engaged in programming that challenged how I see Judaism and social justice intersect. I have had to think critically about how I want to engage with a world that is filled with such sadness, in a Jewish way. To me, Tikkun Olam in action means creating spaces where young people can exist and connect with each other.
I am so thrilled to become part of the Beth Emet community! I can’t wait to meet young people at Shir Shabbat & Beyond on September 5 (see below for more), and the upcoming BESSY event involving board games and ice cream.
I look forward to getting to know youth and parents alike, developing youth as leaders and ‘do gooders’, and fostering a safe and loving community among a world of hate.
Warmly,
Emmie Weprin
Director of Youth Engagement
