A Message from Lauren Reeves

My role as Director of Lifelong Learning involves shared learning and discovery; I look forward to learning as much from you as I look forward to teaching you! You can learn more about me on my bio page website.

Change is hard, bumpy, uncomfortable—and full of possibility. You may need to tell me your name (again) and explain how something used to work. And you get to tell me your story: who you are, what’s shaped you at Beth Emet, and why it matters.

My role is to help you through this change in leadership at Beit Sefer and in Adult Education, and through other changes underway. What brings you comfort? What support do you need?

Change isn’t just happening here; it’s everywhere. The 2024 election, the pandemic, political unrest, rising hate, and more. The good news is that Jewish tradition doesn’t shy away from upheaval. In Parshat B’shalach, the Israelites cross the sea, wander the desert, and fight battles—all rapid, disorienting changes. Their journey reminds us that uncertainty and progress often walk hand in hand.

Change isn’t just about new policies or structures. It’s about how we experience what’s ending and what’s beginning. That emotional space in between, the transition, is often the hardest. Together, we’ll name what’s difficult and what’s hopeful, and navigate the liminal time in the middle with honesty and care.

As you’ll come to know, book suggestions are in keeping with my personality, and my first couple of recommendations for you are all about change:

Warmly,

Lauren Reeves
