The Overnight Shelter Comes to Beth Emet (1/30-2/19)

The Emergency Overnight Shelter is operated by Interfaith Action of Evanston (IAE). It runs from November – April. This year, the shelter is hosted by nine different faith communities. Due to Covid19, IAE can safely provide only 20 beds (cots). Beds are assigned to participants of Interfaith Action and Connection’s services.

Beth Emet sets up the shelter in the Crown Room. The shelter guests arrive at the Ridge Ave doors between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm and leave the building between 6:00 am and 7:00 am. There is one volunteer slot for set up in the evenings from 8:30 – 9:45 pm. This volunteer gives out a blanket, sheets and a bottle of water. The overnight volunteer also sleeps on a cot with a 9:00 pm – 7:00 am shift. The next morning from 6:00 – 7:00 am clean up volunteers help wake up the guests and do light clean up. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to sign up at any of the faith organizations.

All staff and volunteers must show evidence of being vaccinated against Covid, wear a mask and maintain a safe distance. Please bring a copy of your vaccination card the first time you come to volunteer.
