Rabbi Toby Manewith has held many positions in the Jewish community throughout her career. After ordination from HUC-JIR, she worked for Hillel for 10 years. She has also served as a congregational rabbi, a synagogue educator, and a curriculum consultant, writing material for reform temples and agencies throughout the world.
Currently, in addition to her work at Beth Emet, Rabbi Manewith works for the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) where she assists congregations and partner agencies as they try to better understand and challenge antisemitism and all forms of hatred. Her expanded role at Beth Emet allows her to continue in her beloved role as 6th grade teacher at Beit Sefer; waking into the classroom twice a week brings her joy and hope.
Rabbi Manewith is a Chicago native. She is a lifelong Cubs fan and enjoys exploring Chicago’s rich food culture. A graduate of Lane Tech, she is not afraid to build IKEA furniture or fix home appliances when necessary. When not working, eating or holding a wrench, you can find her at the boxing gym or watching political dramas on Netflix. She is most proud of her adult son, her gluten free triple chocolate brownies, and having learned to make gravlax. The former far outweighs the latter two.
