Michael and his wife, Susan Laws, have belonged to Beth Emet since 1998. Their daughter, Rachel, attended Beit Sefer and celebrated her Kabbalat Mitzvah in 2015. Michael deeply values Beth Emet’s community and culture. Over the years, he has been active in social-action work, the soup kitchen, the choir, and the Purim Spiel. He also attends Kahal and serves on its Va’ad. Born and raised in Evanston, and an Illinois Assistant Appellate Defender since 1997, he currently volunteers for the Chicago Community Bond Fund. He loves to backpack and otherwise spend time in nature.
