The Talmud tells us that the destruction of the Temple was brought on by “senseless hatred” and civil strife. Tisha B’Av is therefore an appropriate time to reflect on problems and divisions in our contemporary Jewish community. Given that many of those problems and divisions today center around the situation in Israel, Nimrod Barnea will lead this discussion entitled, “The Crisis in Israel.”
NIMROD BARNEA is a Ph.D. student at the UIC Department of History studying the neoliberal turn of center-left parties in the US, UK, and Israel. Before his graduate studies, Barnea was the campaign manager and advisor to the chairperson of the Meretz Parliamentary group in the Knesset. Barnea served as the Vice President of the International Union of Socialist Youth and a Meretz Party Executive Board member for over a decade. Originally from Tel Aviv, Barnea resides in Evanston with his wife, Lior, and their son Amos.
