Beth Emet member Dr. Hanna Tzuker-Seltzer will discuss two stories by the Israeli writer Etgar Keret: “Pride and Joy” and “Breaking the Pig.” The stories focus on the complex relationships between parents and children in Israel, raising questions, including whether these stories are particularly Israeli or rather universal.

Copies of the two stories will be emailed in advance to registrants.

Etgar Keret is an award-winning author best known for his short stories, graphic novels, and screenwriting.

Dr. Seltzer was raised in Jerusalem. She has a BA in Hebrew literature and creative writing from Hebrew University and a UC Berkeley PhD in Hebrew literature and Israeli film. Hanna created a movie that won an award and was shown on Israeli TV.  Hanna is Northwestern University’s Hebrew program director, teaching advanced Hebrew, Yiddish, Hebrew literature, and Israeli film. Hanna and her family are Beth Emet members.
