How do I even begin to express my gratitude for the most extraordinary retirement celebration? I am still floating on cloud nine.
I felt so deeply honored and loved, and I was genuinely moved by the care and thoughtfulness that went into every detail of the weekend. Cantor Young crafted a spectacular and uplifting Kabbalat Shabbat service, complete with beautiful instrumentation and all my favorite cantorial voices. I was profoundly moved by the exquisite piece that Barb Wertico and Cantor Young composed in my honor, the heartfelt introductions to the prayers, the stunning prayer written by Alden Solovy, and the remarkable array of gifts so carefully chosen to reflect my rabbinate.
On Saturday morning, Kahal honored my wonderful husband, Danny — a complete surprise to all of us. It was so thoughtful to recognize the many contributions he has made to Shabbat morning services over the years. My chevruta (study partner) from rabbinic school, Rabbi Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi, had everyone laughing, learning, and deeply engaged as she taught Torah.
And Saturday night? Simply the most joyful, meaningful, and fun celebration I have ever attended. Former students came out in droves — some flying in from across the country. Elliot Leffler crafted the most thoughtful and moving tribute to my rabbinate, and my children, Yonah and Liora, were the best DJs, filling the room with all my favorite music. Suki Fisher and Debbie Render coordinated every detail with grace and dedication, alongside their incredible committee.
The love and pride deeply moved friends and family who traveled from all over the country that everyone at Beth Emet has for this community and by the remarkable effort that went into creating events that were fun, engaging, and creative.
No words can fully convey the depth of my gratitude. What I can say is this: I am profoundly honored to have served this congregation for twenty-six years, and I cannot wait to watch the greatness that awaits it in the future.
