Event Series Event Series: Kabbalat Shabbat Services

Join us this Friday for a special Kabbalat Shabbat as we celebrate Pride and honor the beauty and diversity within our community. Let’s welcome Shabbat together with joy, song, and a spirit of inclusivity. All are welcome—come as you are.

Our speaker is Rabbi Zack Wiener. Rabbi Wiener is a Reconstructionist rabbi, chaplain, and counselor-in-training based in Chicago. He graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 2020, subsequently moving to Chicago for his chaplaincy training at Rush University Medical Center. Since then, he has worked in trauma centers, psychiatric units, drug and alcohol rehabs, hospice units, and many different ICUs. He currently serves as a staff chaplain at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where he provides spiritual care to patients navigating changes in physical ability due to spinal cord injuries. He is also pursuing a Master’s in Counseling at the Institute for Clinical Social Work, training to become a licensed psychoanalytic psychotherapist.

Zack’s work—whether in hospitals, classrooms, or private spiritual counseling—is grounded in the belief that all people are inherently worthy, wise, and creative, even in the midst of pain and uncertainty. Through his roles as chaplain, educator, and therapist-in-training, Zack is committed to helping others rediscover pride in being alive.
Outside of his professional work, Zack enjoys sitting on the couch with a can of seltzer and his husband, Amir. He also enjoys scuba diving—just as much, though far less frequently.
