He recalls events from earlier books in the Torah and shares his memories with the Israelites. In so doing\, Moses establishes the pattern for the way Jewish religion and Jewish culture will remember. In this class\, we will explore how the book establishes a memory form that not only valorizes history\, but combines history and imagination to create meaning\, the crucial task of any enduring culture. \nDavid Gottlieb is adjunct professor of Jewish Studies\, and former director of Jewish Studies\, at the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership in Chicago.
