DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to invite families with young children to a Winter Olympics–themed afternoon of play and movement at Beth Emet! Children will have fun participating in preschool-friendly versions of classic Olympic sports like speed skating\, figure skating\, hockey\, ski jumping\, bobsledding\, and skiing. All designed for indoor fun and lots of smiles at a time of day that’s often hard to fill during the winter. With a focus on joyful movement\, imagination\, and age-appropriate challenges\, this will be an active and welcoming way for young children to experience the excitement of the Olympics. \nThe program will be led by Jacob Rosenstein\, a local religious school teacher who brings a unique blend of experience as a former PE teacher and summer camp director. \nTo add to the international spirit\, families are invited to bring a nut-free “international” snack to share. \nThis free event is geared for families with children ages 5 and younger. DESCRIPTION:K–3rd grade learners will participate in a special author visit and read-aloud of I Get Around in My Own Special Way\, a story that gently introduces themes of disability\, difference\, and inclusion through a child-centered lens. The program\, put together by Beth Emet’s Inclusion Committee\, invites learners to notice\, ask questions\, and celebrate the many ways people move through the world. \nParents\, grandparents\, and caregivers are encouraged to stay after the read-aloud for casual conversation about how to talk with children about disabilities. This time will offer space to normalize differences\, model respectful interactions\, and support empathy\, kindness\, and inclusion—both at school and at home. \nDonna Goldman is a retired early childhood educator with 28 years of experience working with children. Now happily retired\, she enjoys time with her family\, including her five grandchildren\, and continues to share her perspective from navigating the world in her power chair. Her work reflects a deep commitment to helping children and adults build understanding\, compassion\, and connection. She gets around in her power chair and in her van with license plate GTBKUP2\, which is what her parents taught her to do when life gets challenging!

This meaningful ceremony will include receiving a first taste of Torah\, celebrating each child’s Hebrew name\, and being formally welcomed by our community. Consecration is both a joyful and sacred moment\, recognizing that learning itself is holy. \nThe ceremony will begin in the sanctuary\, followed by a festive dinner. Discover how thoughtful practices and shared responsibility strengthen communities\, making them more equitable\, participatory\, and sacred for all members. \nShelly Christensen\, MA\, FAAIDD\, is the Senior Director of Faith and Spirituality at the disability advocacy nonprofit Disability BelongsTM and a nationally recognized leader in faith-based disability and mental health inclusion. Her work is deeply rooted in lived experience as the parent of a child with autism and as an early parent advocate\, ensuring her son’s right to a free appropriate public education under IDEA. These experiences\, alongside a synagogue and religious school that modeled equity and adaptability\, shaped her lifelong commitment to access\, inclusion\, and belonging in Jewish and interfaith communities.
