DESCRIPTION:David Weiss Halivni z’l (1927-2022)  was a revolutionary in two separate intellectual arenas- talmudic analysis and Jewish theology. As an academic scholar of talmud\, Halivni innovated the notion that much of the Talmud was produced by a group of unnamed editors whom he called Stammaim. As a theologian\, he worked to process both his own and the communal experience of the Holocaust in religious terms. SUMMARY:Dayenu Circle Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Calling on all those concerned about climate change. Come to the next Dayenu Circle zoom meeting. We will be exploring ways to become a more zero-waste congregation by looking at other Evanston faith communities that have adopted zero-waste practices\, e.g.\, composting and avoiding disposable plastic items. We will also kick off brainstorming about celebrating Earth Day in April. \nLaunched last November\, our Beth Emet Dayenu Circle is part of the umbrella organization of the national Dayenu in Washington\, DC. Dayenu is a relatively new group seeking to combat climate change and other environmental concerns based on Jewish values. Since our Circle’s start up last November\, we have focused on meeting a number of goals that fall into three broad categories: education and awareness\, advocacy\, and “greening” our synagogue and homes. \nFor more information on Dayenu\, contact: Sharon Smaller\, 847-651-0955.

SUMMARY:Milestone Celebration for Connections for the Homeless
DESCRIPTION:Several times a year\, Connections for the Homeless gathers their staff and supporters to celebrate and honor the recent accomplishments of their program participants\, staff\, and volunteers. Several Beth Emet members are included in this upcoming program. \nHonorees from Beth Emet include: \n\nHonoring Jeff Forgash with the Lisa Todd Volunteer Award. \nWe are honoring The Lunch Squad as an outstanding volunteer group\, which includes Gail Doeff who has spearheaded this effort\, and Bekki Kaplan who volunteers. Not pictured here is Beth Emet member\, Rachel German.\nIn addition\, Evanston Lighthouse Rotary is being honored as an outstanding community partner.\n\nDoors open at 5:30 pm and the program begins at 6:00 pm.
