SUMMARY:The Forgiveness Experiment: Preparing for the High Holidays
DESCRIPTION:As we enter Elul\, the Jewish month of reflection\, introspection\, and preparation for the High Holidays\, join Beth Emet member and professor Jonathan Singer\, Director of Lifelong Learning Lauren Reeves\, and special guest Rabbi Yisroel Bernath\, author of The Forgiveness Experiment\, for an evening of conversation and practice. \nWe will begin with a discussion of key themes and questions from the book\, exploring the challenges and possibilities of forgiveness through Jewish wisdom and personal reflection. Then Rabbi Bernath will join us to lead an interactive forgiveness exercise drawn from his work. Participants will also be able to talk with the author to ask their toughest questions about forgiveness\, repair\, and the work of the High Holiday season. \nReading the book (the paper version or the audiobook) is encouraged but not required. We will also have a podcast interview with Jonathan Singer and Rabbi Yisroel Bernath to listen to. Whether you have read every page or are simply curious about the topic\, all are welcome as we begin the personal work that leads toward Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. \nMember Registration \nGuest Registration

SUMMARY:From Turbulence to Serenity: An Introduction to Mindfulness & Meditation with Cantor Adam Kahan
DESCRIPTION:Learn and experience how to find centering calm in life’s day-to-day tumult. Join Cantor Adam Kahan for a four-week exploration of mindfulness and meditation beginning this August. Through guided practice\, reflection\, and discussion\, participants will cultivate a renewable resource of peace\, awareness\, and asense of true self while exploring connections to Jewish wisdom and tradition. \nThis course\, open to adults and teens\, is designed for anyone seeking practical tools for mindfulness\, personal growth\, and deeper self-understanding. While not specifically a High Holiday program\, the timing offers an opportunity to enter the season of reflection with greater intentionality\, awareness\, and openness. \nEach session will include a brief teaching\, guided meditation practice\, and time for reflection and questions. No prior meditation experience is necessary\, and there is no need to be able to “stop thinking.” \nThursdays\, August 13 – September 3\,  7:00–8:15 PM\nAt Beth Emet\, in the Beit Midrash\n(Hybrid options available upon request)\nSpace is limited to encourage meaningful discussion and practice. \nMembers register here \nGuests register here
