SUMMARY:Earth Day Climate Action Kabbalat Shabbat Services with State Senator Laura Fine
DESCRIPTION:State Senator Laura Fine to Speak at Beth Emet on Climate Change & Our Mental Health\nThis special Shabbat service\, spearheaded by Beth Emet’s Dayenu Circle\, will focus on our Jewish values\, which guide us in the fight against climate change and other environmental challenges. We are honored to have State Senator Laura Fine as our guest speaker who will talk to us about the intersection of climate change and mental health. “Eco-anxiety” is caused by fearing the effects of climate change and feeling hopeless. Senator Fine will share what can be done\, including meaningful actions we can take individually. Rabbi Memis-Foler will offer a meditation connecting us to the environment. Cantor Cotler will weave in melodies mindful of the Earth from our tradition and today. \nCome just a little early to the Climate Action Shabbat to browse the info tables in the lobby. You’ll learn more about what’s happening in the local environment and climate action scene. Participating groups include Dayenu\, Go Green Wilmette\, Environmental Justice Evanston\, Citizens Greener Evanston\, and Citizens Climate Lobby. Find out how you can take some simple steps to reduce your carbon footprint and take action on climate- related advocacy positions. \nFor those seeking to learn and do more\, here is a guide from the national Dayenu group\, a climate change organization based on Jewish values\, sharing activities which you can get involved with in the fight against climate change. \nWelcome Shabbat whether in the Sanctuary or online! Pre-registration is no longer required unless you have yet to submit your booster information\, (which is required now) and sign the Brit (Covenant of Responsibility) by completing the online form. \nTo listen to the service dial 847-869-4230 and press 7 \nJoin Livestream

SUMMARY:Beth Emet Stands Against Racism

Bring a whistle\, bell or other noisemaker to attract car riders to our important message. \nWe will be joining dozens of Evanston organizations and hundreds of individuals\, young and old\, in a demonstration extending along Ridge Avenue in solidarity with communities all over the nation. In this time of rising violence\, bigotry\, and government attacks on civil rights\, we all need to stand together and make our voices heard loud and clear. \nThen\, join the YWCA’s Stand Against Racism Keynote Address\, “Calling in Allies for Shared Accountability”\, 12:00-1:30 pm. Loretta J. Ross\, an intellectual\, professor\, and activist\, will speak about calling in allies and fighting white supremacy. \nThe keynote address is free and virtual. Register with YWCA Evanston/North Shore.
