SUMMARY:Shavuot: Experience the Torah of Healing
DESCRIPTION:Spend the night enriching the soul and nurturing spiritual growth. From the second night of Passover until Shavuot\, we count the Omer each of the 49 days\, linking our redemption from slavery to the revelation of the Torah at Mt. Sinai. As we move from bondage to freedom\, the kabbalistic tradition teaches us to work on our character traits to prepare us to receive the Torah with an open heart. Pirkei Avot (Sayings of the Sages) adds that if we turn the Torah over and over\, we will find all the wisdom we need to support us on our journey through life and to live lives of purpose. During these challenging times\, this Erev Shavuot\, we will turn to the Torah for strength and healing.  Through meditative drumming\, soulful singing\, and niggunim (chanting)\, wrestling with kabbalistic notions about how we can perceive God\, delving into the world of Tikkun Middot (working on our character traits) through poetry\, prayers\, and conversation\, and nourishing our bodies with cheesecake (dairy and vegan)\, we will refresh our souls and explore how Jewish tradition can help us be more resilient.   \nShavuot continues with festival morning services and Yizkor on Monday\, June 2\, at 10:00 am. For a link to that service\, click here. \n  \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Register here \nWhat does it look like to be part of a community that holds a wide range of views on Israel/Palestine and the conflict?  The congregation is called for a unique opportunity to grapple with this question as we learn from each other and from our trained and intergenerational facilitators. We will begin with Kabbalat Shabbat Services\, followed by a buffet dinner from Pita Inn and lively\, facilitated discussions. Whether you are in a Salon Group or not\, whether you are deeply informed on the conflict or not\, we encourage you to be part of what promises to be another amazing event as part of our One Congregation\, Many Voices initiative. For a look at additional questions we’re grappling with this spring\, please see here. \n  \nIf you are attending as a guest of a member\, please register through the office.
