DESCRIPTION:We’re packing 100 Comfort Care Bags for people who have had abortions\, in conjunction with Planned Parenthood of IL. Each bag costs $18. Help us meet our goal! You can join in person and/or donate now. \nBeth Emet’s Reproductive Rights Task Force is again supporting Planned Parenthood of Illinois packing care bags to people who have had abortions. Our goal is to provide 100 bags. You are invited to donate funds and/or help pack the bags. We’ll also write notes to abortion patients and clinic staff. Inspired by Anya and Teo Siegel-Acevedo’s Gemilut Chasadim Project\, we are continuing the work as a full congregation. \nHow to participate: \n\nMake a donation to help purchase the supplies. Back by popular demand (because it’s fun!) is a Chanukah Shabbat dinner featuring our second annual latke topping contest. Yes\, there’s more to toppings than just applesauce and sour cream. If you’d like\, be creative – sweet or savory (or both!) and bring enough for 15 people. The winner will receive a “special” Chanukah sweater. Shabbat dinner will feature a soup bar with many types of add-ins (more than matza balls and kreplach). \nThis is one Shabbat evening you will not want to miss. SUMMARY:Show That We Care - Join Our Zoom Chanukah Candle Lighting with Kibbutz Kissufim
DESCRIPTION:Beth Emet is taking the lead in addressing the needs of Kibbutz Kissufim\, one of the kibbutzim that was attacked and largely destroyed on October 7. Kibbutz Kessufim’s members will be displaced for many months and are currently temporarily housed in an isolated hotel on the Dead Sea. Many of you have been very generous in contributing to our campaign in support of the Kibbutz’s members but we’re still short of our $100\,000 fundraising goal. Click here to learn more about Kibbutz Kessufim and our support\, and click here to donate. \nThe support we can offer the members of the kibbutz is more than just financial\, however. Under the direction of Marci Dickman\, four groups of our Gan Yom Rishon and Beit Sefer students have prepared a Happy Chanukah video message which we have sent to the Kibbutz.  Here’s a link to that video. Now it’s our turn. Working with representatives of the Kibbutz we have arranged for a Zoom candle lighting between our communities in celebration of the sixth night of Chanukah. The candle lighting will take place at 9:30 am Central time (5:30 p.m. Israeli time) on Tuesday\, December 12. We would like to have as many Beth Emet households as possible join the Zoom and fill the screens with menorah lightings\, led by Rabbi London and Cantor Young. DESCRIPTION:Beth Emet teen\, Lila Selch\, a lifelong member\, spent the first half of 2023 at Heller High and will be talking about her exciting time in Israel. As part of the program\, Lila took the required Jewish history class. On her own time\, she attended weekly demonstrations and stayed with many different Israelis. Through these different learning opportunities\, Lila examined Zionism in many forms.
