SUMMARY:Conversational Hebrew
DESCRIPTION:Conversational Hebrew meets most Sundays\, 11:00 am–12:00 pm when Beit Sefer meets. This class uses an Ulpan-like immersive setting to teach modern conversational Hebrew. Participants will read news articles\, discuss life and current events\, and other basic conversations in Hebrew. The only prerequisite is basic Hebrew skills. The class meets in the Beit Midrash. \nMembers\, click here to register. \nGuests\, click here to register. \nDorit Flatt is the daughter of Holocaust survivors and grew up in Tel-Aviv\, Israel. After completing her IDF service in the paratrooper unit\, she studied elementary education at Seminar Levinsky in Tel-Aviv. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan and taught Hebrew language\, literature\, and religious studies in Michigan for 25 years.

She has held leadership positions in major Jewish organizations\, including Project Otzma and the JCRC of Greater Boston.

DESCRIPTION:In this session\, Director of Lifelong Learning Lauren Reeves and Adult Education Committee member Doug Hoffman will explore Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt\, examining the history behind the play and the Jewish world it portrays. Participants will learn about Jewish life in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century and the rise of antisemitism in Europe\, providing historical context that deepens the themes and story depicted on stage.
