SUMMARY:Art discussion: Out of the Narrows Haggadah
DESCRIPTION:Out of the Narrows: The Artists’ Haggadah reimagines the Passover experience through the eyes of contemporary artists grappling with the world’s challenges. Created by the Jewish Artists Collective Chicago (JACC)\, this unique Haggadah combines the traditional steps of the Seder—presented in Hebrew\, English\, and transliteration—with powerful visual commentary and personal reflections. Artists Carol Neiger and Beth Emet’s Jane Weintraub will talk with us about the formation of the JACC\, what inspired them to create a new haggadah and how they collaborated to produce this liturgical text. In -person only. \nMembers register here \nNon-members register here \nBeth Emet uses budgeted funds and fees to support our adult education program. This year\, instead of individual registration fees for specific classes\, our goal is to secure $4\,000 in donations to cover our costs. DESCRIPTION:Conversational Hebrew meets most Sundays\, 11:00 am–12:00 pm when Beit Sefer meets. This class uses an Ulpan-like immersive setting to teach modern conversational Hebrew. Participants will read news articles\, discuss life and current events\, and other basic conversations in Hebrew. The only prerequisite is basic Hebrew skills. After completing her IDF service in the paratrooper unit\, she studied elementary education at Seminar Levinsky in Tel-Aviv. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan and taught Hebrew language\, literature\, and religious studies in Michigan for 25 years.

SUMMARY:Tikkun Middot through the Senses
DESCRIPTION:Tikkun Middot through the Senses will explore the power of creativity as a tool for our own personal renewal and spiritual connection. Using writing\, image making\, music\, movement and prayer\, we will explore how the obstacles and opportunities present in each moment of our lives impact our choices and actions. No prior experience is necessary – just a willing heart and an openness to new avenues of expression.  If you’ve thought about embracing your inner muse with a stance of curiosity\, then this va’ad (group) is for you. \nTikkun Middot–meaning measuring or perfecting positive soul traits such as loving connectedness\, humility\, patience\, gratitude\, and silence–is a process of exploring our inner resources with curiosity and balance as its cornerstones. Through short meditation\, study\, exchange of ideas\, and creative exploration\, each session will help guide the va’ad towards an understanding of how we each act and react in the world. \nThis group is open to new seekers or those already rooted in the practice of Tikkun Middot. We will meet once a month for six months beginning in October through March in person at Beth Emet on Sundays\, 1:00 – 3:00 pm in the Weiner Room.  The group will be limited to 12 participants. DESCRIPTION:Beza Abebe will share Ethiopian Jewish history\, including lifestyle and Jewish practices in Ethiopia; the experience of aliyah to Israel; the Sigd holiday —its history and practice today — and her personal journey. A question and answer session will follow. \nBeza Abebe is a human rights advocate\, research fellow\, and speaker at Be’chol Lashon\, where she advances Jewish diversity. Originally from Yabello\, Ethiopia\, she made aliyah to Israel in 2014 and has worked in legal and philanthropic roles supporting the Ethiopian-Israeli community. She holds a doctorate in International Law from Golden Gate University and degrees from IDC Herzliya\, Tel Aviv University\, and Hawassa University.
