SUMMARY:The Forgiveness Experiment: Preparing for the High Holidays
DESCRIPTION:As we enter Elul\, the Jewish month of reflection\, introspection\, and preparation for the High Holidays\, join Beth Emet member and professor Jonathan Singer\, Director of Lifelong Learning Lauren Reeves\, and special guest Rabbi Yisroel Bernath\, author of The Forgiveness Experiment\, for an evening of conversation and practice. \nWe will begin with a discussion of key themes and questions from the book\, exploring the challenges and possibilities of forgiveness through Jewish wisdom and personal reflection. Then Rabbi Bernath will join us to lead an interactive forgiveness exercise drawn from his work. Participants will also be able to talk with the author to ask their toughest questions about forgiveness\, repair\, and the work of the High Holiday season. \nReading the book (the paper version or the audiobook) is encouraged but not required. We will also have a podcast interview with Jonathan Singer and Rabbi Yisroel Bernath to listen to. Whether you have read every page or are simply curious about the topic\, all are welcome as we begin the personal work that leads toward Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. \nMember Registration \nGuest Registration

SUMMARY:High Holiday learning with Rabbi Immerman
DESCRIPTION:How do we decide to sound the shofar on Shabbat? This year\, Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat\, and technically sounding the shofar is considered work. Like many Reform congregations\, we will sound the shofar. Rabbi Immerman will help us explore our sacred texts that guided these decisions and uncover how the Shofar helps us create community. \nMember Registration \nGuest Registration
