SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah Photo Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Yom HaShoah\, Beth Emet will host a photographic exhibit from Zachor: The Holocaust Memory Project in the Crown Room\, Thursday\, April 9 through Sunday\, April 12. The exhibit features powerful portraits of Holocaust survivors paired with brief reflections from their lives\, preserving their stories and honoring their resilience. The project’s name\, Zachor (Hebrew for “remember”) reflects the Jewish responsibility to carry these memories forward and to confront hatred and antisemitism in our own time. Congregants are encouraged to stop by the Crown Room to spend time with these moving images.\n\nOn Sunday\, April 12\, we will have a conversation for adults\, including Beit Sefer parents about antisemitism. Rabbi Toby Manewith and Lauren Reeves will talk about the antisemitism that many school-age children are encountering today. We will discuss how parents can respond when their child shares these experiences\, ways to support children emotionally\, and strategies for communicating effectively with schools when incidents occur. After this conversation\, parents along with 5th-7th grade Beit Sefer learners will visit a photo exhibit featuring Holocaust survivors and how their stories implore us to continue combatting hate and injustice.

SUMMARY:Rescheduled: Entering into Prayer: Seeing Prayer in a New Light with Rabbi Rivka Glick
DESCRIPTION:What is prayer? What are we doing when we pray and why is it so difficult? We will try seeing familiar prayers in a new light\, experiencing prayer as poetry\, love song\, conversation\, education changing our consciousness\, a journey\, or as a clarification of who we are and what we need. All this is prayer. We will also try accessing the prayers through different gates: traditional\, musical\, mindful\, and even mystical approaches. \nRabbi Dr. Rivka (Roberta) Glick began her career working with the poor and treating people with brain tumors and severe trauma on the west side of Chicago at Cook County and Mount Sinai Hospitals. Today she is a rabbi\, an important stop on her spiritual path of connection to herself\, to others\, and to the Divine. Her aspiration continues to be bringing kindness and compassion into the world. \nMembers\, click here to register. \nGuests\, click here to register. \n  \nBeth Emet uses budgeted funds and fees to support our adult education program. This year\, instead of individual registration fees for specific classes\, our goal is to secure $4\,000 in donations to cover our costs. SUMMARY:Tikkun Middot through the Senses
DESCRIPTION:Tikkun Middot through the Senses will explore the power of creativity as a tool for our own personal renewal and spiritual connection. Using writing\, image making\, music\, movement and prayer\, we will explore how the obstacles and opportunities present in each moment of our lives impact our choices and actions. No prior experience is necessary – just a willing heart and an openness to new avenues of expression.  If you’ve thought about embracing your inner muse with a stance of curiosity\, then this va’ad (group) is for you. \nTikkun Middot–meaning measuring or perfecting positive soul traits such as loving connectedness\, humility\, patience\, gratitude\, and silence–is a process of exploring our inner resources with curiosity and balance as its cornerstones. Through short meditation\, study\, exchange of ideas\, and creative exploration\, each session will help guide the va’ad towards an understanding of how we each act and react in the world. \nThis group is open to new seekers or those already rooted in the practice of Tikkun Middot. We will meet once a month for six months beginning in October through March in person at Beth Emet on Sundays\, 1:00 – 3:00 pm in the Weiner Room.  The group will be limited to 12 participants. As you consider joining us – please first take a look at your calendar to make sure of your availability. \nSue Nadel and Jane Weintraub are excited to facilitate this creative journey\, in person only. Questions? Please feel free to contact one of us!  suenadel@comcast.net  jsweintraub@comcast.net \nClick here for guest registration. \nClick here for member registration.

SUMMARY:Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza: Reckoning with Peter Beinart's 2025 Book (3 part series: February 11\, 18\, 25)
DESCRIPTION:Beinart’s book presents the October 7 attacks and the ensuing war as a profound turning point in modern Jewish history. In this three‑session course\, Beth Emet members Hannah Graham and Danny London will use Beinart’s text as a springboard for exploring how traditional narratives have shaped Jewish identity and how contemporary Jewish perspectives—particularly views on Israel—are shifting in response to the events of the war. Together\, we will examine the tensions\, questions\, and emerging frameworks that are redefining Jewish self‑understanding in this moment of upheaval. This is a 3-part series: February 11\, 18\, 25. In-person only. \nMembers register here \nNon-members register here
